ICRD Program Assistant:

The International Center for Religion & Diplomacy (ICRD) is seeking to immediately hire 1-2 short-term Program Assistants who will work with the entire ICRD team to provide support for specific ICRD projects and grant proposals. Program support and research duties may include ongoing grants in Uganda, the Maldives, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, the Sahel, South and Southeast Asia and other global programs. The positions will initially be filled for 6 months, with the possibility of an extension contingent upon resources and performance. The salary range for these positions is $34,000 – $42,000, depending on skills and experience. Duties related to the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist in conducting context analyses and other research to inform program development and implementation;
  • Support research and report drafting on country case studies, in concert with DC-based and international researchers;
  • Maintain financial tracking, reconciliation of financials with ICRD’s Treasurer, and financial reporting to donors;
  • Draft regular narrative reports for donors, including maintaining M&E information;
  • Provide administrative and programming support including: communications, drafting of donor reports, and logistical support;
  • Develop an ongoing list of program partners and supporters, and communicate with them as needed;
  • Translation between English and relevant program languages (primarily French and Arabic), both orally and in written documentation;
  • Help draft proposals for additional funding for existing or new programs;
  • Contribute to aspects of program design and broad strategic development, as requested;
  • Potentially assist in field activities, as relevant, which may include: serving as a co-trainer, facilitator, or translator;
  • Other tasks as designated by ICRD senior staff.

Candidates will be vetted primarily based on the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in International Affairs, Conflict Resolution, Religious Studies or a related field, with 3 years of relevant experience; or Master’s Degree in same;
  • Meticulous attention to detail;
  • Exceptional research, writing, and editing skills;
  • Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems with minimal supervision;
  • One candidate is sought with fluency in French and one with fluency in Arabic, both written and spoken (native speaker preferred) – other relevant program languages will be considered;
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken;
  • Strong inter-personal skills;
  • Commitment to religious pluralism and religious freedom;
  • Meaningful experience in supporting project management, administration, and implementation;
  • Willingness to be flexible and contribute beyond normal tasks and areas of expertise;
  • Ability to handle multiple competing deadlines, as well as adapt to differences in cultural and professional styles across country contexts;
  • Some knowledge of concepts and practices of preventing violent extremism and reducing and resolving identity conflict;
  • Effective at working as part of a team in a diverse and fluid environment;
  • (Preferred) Country-specific knowledge related to some of the following: the Maldives, Uganda, the Sahel (Chad and Cameroon, in particular), Saudi Arabia, Yemen, with South and Southeast Asia knowledge;
  • (Preferred) Understanding of Islam, including subtleties of sectarian identities and practices, and current social and political realities in Islamic contexts;

The following skills will also support the application:

  • Experience in designing financial management tools;
  • Experience in grants management, including working with USG grant mechanisms;
  • Experience in program design;
  • General understanding of core concepts, values, and communities of practice in other faith traditions;
  • Data analysis experience;
  • Knowledge of Islamic education;
  • Experience in designing training curricula;
  • Training and facilitation skills;
  • Fundraising experience – particularly with private donors;
  • IT skills, including innovative use of new technologies;
  • Familiarity with current USG policy priorities;
  • International field experience.
